Attractions & Activities to Enjoy During Your Visit Ride the magnificent Skunk Train along the Noyo River and majestic redwoods, either half day or full day, through an area that is inaccessible to the public except by train. Watch the California Gray Whales on their migration to their summer waters in Mexico (January & February) and then as they return to the frigid waters of the Bering Sea during March & April. MacKerricher State Park, just north of Fort Bragg, is an excellent whale viewing point, as well as a great place to catch the antics of local surfers. Discover hidden treasures at Glass Beach, or take a picnic lunch to Ten Mile Beach - and never see another person! Tour the wineries along Hwy 128 through the Anderson Valley and see why Mendocino County is making waves in the California wine Market. Gowan's Apple Orchard & Fruit Stand, just outside of Boonville, is a relaxing, and delicious, break for travelers on their way to the coast. Abalone diving & sport fishing are also major draws to this beautiful area and there are numerous dive shops and half-day & full day boats that journey out of Noyo Harbor. For landlubbers, why not ride a galloping horse through the surf or redwoods at Ricochet Ridge Ranch. Call for reservations at (707) 964-PONY. And be sure not to miss the numerous museums in the area for more of the local history and culture. The Guest House Museum on Main St. in Fort Bragg was built entirely of redwood in 1892 (the same year the Old Coast Hotel was built) and filled with pictures and artifacts depicting the area's rich history. At the Point Cabrillo Preserve guests can visit the newly restored 1909 Lighthouse, one of the few intact and publicly accessible light stations remaining on the Pacific Coast. Hiking Trails abound along the coastline, with five state parks within 15 miles of the hotel. Ped-power is free and gets visitors right up close to several spectacular waterfalls, as well as fern grottos and canyons that dot the countryside. Nurseries also abound in our magnificent sunshine, so why not visit one (or several) and take home something blooming to remind you of your visit to the Mendocino Coast. The renown Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are just south of Fort Bragg and a
